About North Carolina Wolf Trap
In the fall of 2006, ArtsTeach became home for the 16th regional site of the acclaimed Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts. North Carolina Wolf Trap, a Program of ArtsTeach, follows the Institute’s mission to teach at-risk preschool children basic academic and life skills through active participation in music, dance, drama and storytelling led by teaching artists. It also provides professional development for teachers through observation and reflection of the practical application of these techniques.

Working in partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and the Wolf Trap Institute, North Carolina Wolf Trap incorporates the arts into the Bright Beginnings Pre-K program, and connects with the OWL literacy-based curriculum used by CMS. Through active engagement and collaboration with Teaching Artists in music, drama and creative movement, early childhood professionals gain a hands-on understanding of the connection between developmentally appropriate performing arts experiences and the acceleration of children’s learning.

The North Carolina Wolf Trap model consists of 7-week residencies. During the residencies, teaching artists visit each classroom twice weekly and collaborate with the Pre-K teacher to guide children in arts experiences that support the learning of key academic and developmental concepts.
